Squirrels

Squirrel Class is a class in Pathway 4 made up of 13 mixed age children between 7 and 11 years of age. We focus closely on the individual needs of each child and their preferred learning styles. There are regular opportunities for indoor and outdoor learning where the children are able to explore their ideas using a wide range of practical equipment.
There are three members of staff; Mrs Guest, Mrs Lowe and Mrs McDonald. The team have created a safe and happy learning environment that inspires the children to care for each other and promotes a positive learning environment, encouraging self-confidence and independence, in all aspects of the child’s life and learning.

Class updates

Physical Education
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. We are lucky to be working with the Wolves Foundation on a Tuesday with a focus on multi-skills. Then on Thursday the children will be learning hockey skills. Please make sure your child has their PE kit to keep in school and it is clearly labelled.

Life Skills
This term in Life Skills we will be learning about ’Keeping Safe’ and ‘Personal Hygiene’. During this topic we will be focusing on what it means to be safe, identifying ways we can be safe at home, in school and out in the wider community. In Personal Hygiene we will learn about the importance of taking care of our bodies and keeping them clean.

Reading
Your child will be brining a reading book home, which needs to be returned to school every day. Please try to encourage your child to read the book to you and record in the reading record. If your child is reluctant to read a schoolbook at home, you may also want to record any books that you share together, or that your child has read, these might include; signs, symbols, logos, or comics and magazines, as well as audio books. We are promoting reading for pleasure in class with our reading corner and will be looking at a range of texts during our topic.
