Badgers

Hello and a warm welcome to Badger Class! We love to keep busy with our daily learning. In this class we have Miss Nair as class teacher.

Our day starts with breakfast which toast and butter; We kindly request 50p donations to support our breakfast sessions in class. This is then followed by self- registration using our visual aids and timetable. We then follow our timetable with Phonics, English, Maths in the morning and foundation subjects in the afternoon. To support our children in transition and routines we use songs and Makaton signing, thus embedding the total communication approach here at Woodsetton. Our children in Badger class particularly enjoy engaging in videos from Singing Hands.

Our weekly structure for English is as follows:

  • Monday – Colourful semantics

  • Tuesday – Reading and Comprehension

  • Thursday – Speech and Language targets

  • Friday – Writing.

Our weekly structure for Maths is as follows:

  • Monday – Number

  • Tuesday – Number

  • Thursday – Shape, space and measure

  • Friday – Using and Applying.

Our Physical Development days are on Wednesday morning and Tuesday afternoon. We politely request children to wear suitable clothing and footwear for this. This is a non-uniform day. We also love to access our Soft Playroom to develop our gross motor skills. Alongside Caterpillar and Mole class, we are on a weekly rota to access Crystal Leisure Centre for our regular Soft Play sessions.

We love to read in Badger Class, we change our reading books every Wednesday, we also love to read your comments in children’s reading diary! Please remember to send your children in with reading books every day into school. We have an outdoor area for our Badgers Playground which we use daily. In our hut we have a lovely reading area for children to continue to develop their love of reading. We use our forest school area for our foundation subjects, such as Life Skills, we encourage children explore the natural environment around them using our tools and hands!

Each child is provided with a home communication book. We check these books every day in the morning, and we will put a comment in as and when needed. We encourage parents to use these books if you have any messages you want to mention.
