Governing Body

Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. The role of the Governing Body is absolutely key to the effectiveness of a school.

School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher.

Each individual governor is a member of the Governing Body, which is established in law as a corporate body. Individual governors may not act independently of the rest of the Governing Body; decisions are the joint responsibility of the full Governing Body.

The role of the Governing Body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

Any Governor can represent your views to the Governing Body of the school, although it is usual for parents to approach the Governors either through one of the Parent Representatives or through the Headteacher. Whichever route you may wish to take, the Governors consider one of their primary roles is to listen to parents’ views.

If you are interested in becoming a school governor at Woodsetton, please do not hesitate to contact the Chair or the Headteacher. It is a very worthwhile task and training is available.
